I'm in my senior year here at Matoaca and I have come to realize that I would not want to be anywhere else. Matoaca offers a present and yet not overbearing amount of diversity that allows students to always feel like they have a group, but also see the other sides and perspectives to many of life's situations. The school had gotten a bit stricter regarding policy with the change of our Principal, however, I would argue that this has limited the amount of fights that the school has in comparison to prior years and keeps students focused on the end goal. Of course, no school is perfect. There are always bad apples and things happening beneath the surface, however I can assure you that this happens EVERYWHERE in Chesterfield. Matoaca has an excellent staff that offers numerous resources in order to avoid being caught up in bad situations and that promote success. They hold career and college fairs, and even college nights to help make the entire process of applying easier for students and their families. It does not matter your background, teachers at Matoaca generally speaking will support your ventures and work to make sure you are involved and getting the most out of your education. I cannot express how much that tremendously has helped me from my freshman year to now. I highly recommend those looking at this school, may you be in district or applying for a specialty center, to talk to the students and come visit for a day, I am sure you will not be disappointed. While we surely don't have the same type of funding as larger schools like Thomas Dale, Cosby, Clover Hill, etc. Our school still has the same passion and standards with a staff that works diligently to make sure that you take as much as you can from your high school life. I have been going here two years and it's pretty neat... tiny weeny bit strict tho.
When Blenda was the principle the school pretty much was awful! God bless she isn't here anymore. I had to take several things to the school board. So I tried, and addition to that if there is a teacher that has had several complaints about them they still do nothing about it. They really need to get rid of some teachers because they can't teach and they say some mess behind other students backs along with some nasty stuff about their parents. But its gucci ill take care of it in the future my self :) I've heard enough. Matoaca, i'm not a fan.
The teachers are spectacular whilst the education is lacking in some courses. It is far too invested in athletics. Expect to not have the information on any events at this school (outside of sports games) until shortly before. Students are unruly and rules are broken so often that its blase.
This is one of the best schools that I have ever been to. The teachers are amazing and I hope to see some of of my favorites next year.
